Our Greatest Success
Expectations for the Penang Challenger were higher than ever coming off 2018. Thus, we focused on every little detail of the event. We wanted to maintain its high standards but also provide new components to keep things fresh.
For the first time in our history, the tournament consisted of teams that had won a combined total of 4 World Tour Finals and many more Masters & Challengers. Each team in the group stage had a realistic chance of winning it all. The top 4 powerhouses, Novi Sad, Liman, Piran, and Ljubljana, faced off against a multitude of rising stars, such as Edmonton, Beijing, and Gagarin. The final saw Novi Sad capping off an improbable run and winning their first title in Penang against Edmonton.
Still, the games were not the only highlight of the weekend. The crowd cheered on their fan favorites, but they were also treated to a sensational dunk contest. We brought in professional dunker, David “Air David” Carlos, and he amazed the audience with his remarkable athleticism. Additionally, the public had the chance to participate in a variety of fan experience initiatives and booths around the court. Overall, the Penang Challenger continued to impress, and we look forward to future years.
