First FIBA 3X3 Challenger in Penang
In 2016, World Hoops brought the exciting world of 3X3 to Penang for the first time. Located within the main atrium of Gurney Paragon Mall, the Challenger was the most unique sporting event Malaysia had ever witnessed.
Professional players from Europe and Asia flew in to compete with several 3X3 superstars headlining the tournament. Teams from Malaysia also participated and put up a great fight. Throughout the weekend, we enjoyed a level of basketball never seen before in Penang. The players excited the crowd in each game as they displayed their incredible talent and athleticism. In the final, Piran narrowly beat Ognezaschita to earn the first-place finish.
With our debut, we established the Penang Challenger as a first-class tournament, one that not only attracted the best 3X3 teams but also entertained thousands of fans locally and globally. Thus, we had the foundation for even better events to come.
